The Appraisal Journal opperates under a subscription model and charges no fees for authors. Appraisal Institute members recieve a subscription as a benefit of their membership. Aim & Scope
The Appraisal Journal is Appraisal Institute’s quarterly peer-reviewed journal.
Winner of a Gold Circle Award from The Center for Association Leadership (ASAE), the Journal is recognized as the appraisal profession’s premier technical and academic publication. Nearly 20,000 appraisers and others rely on the Journal for well-researched, innovative and thought-provoking articles that help them thrive in their practice and advance the profession.
More than 350 pages are annually written by leading practitioners on topics ranging from how recessions impact the real estate market, to housing prices for foreign buyers, to special issues in land valuation, and so much more.

The Appraisal Journal welcomes manuscripts on all topics related to the appraisal profession. We’re especially interested in receiving manuscripts on the following topics:
Banquet facilities, clubs, and venues
Communications tower value
Corporate campuses
Easements
Fixtures, furniture, and equipment
Industrial properties
Market delineation
Opportunity zones
Recreational facilities
Residential appraisal
Value impacts of covenants or deed restrictions
Case study analyses are encouraged.
Manuscript Guidelines
Manuscripts should be between 3,000 and 8,000 words. They should include a review of published literature related to the topic and cite relevant established concepts and practices. Your manuscript should specify why you agree or disagree with those concepts and practices.

Manuscript Review
Each manuscript submitted to the Journal is considered in a double-blind review. Manuscripts may be reviewed by members of the Editorial Board, Review Panel, or Academic Review Panel, or by outside specialists when appropriate.
Misconduct
The Appraisal Journal shall take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data falsification/fabrication, among others. We do not knowingly allow such misconduct to take place. To report misconduct, contact taj@appraisalinstitute.org.
Archiving
In the event the journal is no longer published, The Appraisal Journal plans that the Appraisal Institute’s Lum Library, and article aggregators such as Ebsco, Cengage/Gale and Proquest will continue to preserve electronic access to the journal content.
Ethics, Confidentiality, and Disclosures
Authors of manuscripts submitted to The Appraisal Journal must have specific authorization from their clients before disclosing (a) confidential factual data received from a client or (b) the analyses, opinions, or conclusions of an appraisal.
Authors must disclose any relationships that may suggest bias in the research and results, including affiliations or funding.
The Appraisal Journal publishes letters to the editor that respond to previously published articles. An article’s author will be given the chanceto respond in the pages of the appraisal journal to letters to the editor recieved about that author’s work.
Copyright
Authors should not submit manuscripts that are being reviewed for publication in other journals. Authors should not engage in plagiarism or self-plagiarism, replicating previously published works. All articles accepted become the property of the Appraisal Institute and cannot be reproduced elsewhere without specific permission of the Appraisal Institute.
